Ice Dyed Textiles
Sept. 6th & 7th (2 day workshop!)
10 am - 1 pm
What is ice dye?
Unlike classic tie-dye, where you use liquid dye placed on a carefully folded and tied piece of fabric to create a beautiful pattern, ice dye is done with ice cubes, powdered dye, and a dash of chaos!
Ice dye is for people who love the look of tie dye but aren't as fond of the classic tie-dye mandalas and intricate geometric patterns, or the hours it can take to measure and tie off a shirt before you can even get to the dye part! As the ice melts onto the fabric, it brings the powdered dye with it, creating a new and unique pattern every time. You can predict some of what the dye will do, but part of the fun of ice dye is in letting go of expectations and control.
In this class, you will learn a bit of the chemistry behind dying as you prep your fabric to receive color, some color theory as it relates to dye interaction, and how best to set up the fabric to make the most of the powdered dye.
By the end of this two-day class, you will have two completed pieces of art that were dyed with professional dyes that will not fade or leak onto your other clothes in the wash.
You can bring 2pieces of fabric to dye, such as: 2 XL t-shirts, 1 shirt and 1 tank top, 1 sweatshirt and a crop top, 1 pair of lounge pants and a child's shirt, etc.
