Mending with Sashiko

$30.00
Sold Out

This hands-on workshop introduces sashiko, a traditional Japanese stitching technique used to mend, reinforce, and beautify worn textiles. Local sewist Kristin Oto will teach us about the tools and techniques needed to apply some basic sashiko patterns to garments and fabric of our choosing. Participants will leave with practical skills and a renewed appreciation for visible mending as both craft and care. All supplies will be provided (but BYO mending projects) and all skill levels are welcome!

About the Artist:

Kristin is a fourth-generation Japanese American from Sacramento. At 13-years-old she learned to sew for the first time in a library workshop with her grandmother, and she hasn’t stopped sewing since. She now makes garments and functional accessories often from upcycled fabrics, including using Sashiko as a tool for mending, strengthening, and embellishing. The needs and whimsy of her two young children guide her projects lately, helping her imagine pieces where beauty and playfulness meet purpose. You can view more of her projects on Instagram @sabisews.
