With all the chaos unfolding in the world right now, it feels more important than ever to make our voices heard—loudly, clearly, and preferably in fearless inkiness. And what better way to do that than with a protest poster?
Join us as we design, print, and stencil our own protest signs on fabric and paper. We’ll be using a Kelsey platen press (yes, legit letterpress—because even our dissent deserves a touch of classiness). Come get your hands inky and your message out into the world.
About the Artist:
Nikki Thompson—also known as Deconstructed Artichoke Press—is a book artist, poet, and self-described “happily failed architect.” After leaving Southern California to study architecture at UC Berkeley, she stayed in the Bay Area to earn her MFA in creative writing and book arts from California College of the Arts in 2002. Her work blends bookmaking, printmaking, and collage to explore themes of social justice, feminism, and humor, and has earned recognition including First Prize at Gallerie Renee Marie, a Purchase Prize at 23 Sandy Gallery, and several grants and fellowships. A nearly award-winning poet, she has been a runner-up for the Earl Weaver Baseball Writing Prize and nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She now lives in Sacramento with her husband and daughter, and shares her work online via Facebook at DeconstructedArtichokePress and on Instagram and Pinterest at @d_artichoke.
